About Us

The Islamic Center of Virginia,
Richmond, Virginia

Is a non-profit, tax-exempt Islamic organization located in Richmond, Virginia, serving the Muslim needs of the communityin Central Virginia.

 We rely completely on contributions to support the center.   Major expenses include utilities and maintenance.  We also receive many requests for sadeqa (charity) which can only be provided if we have the funds available.

The Islamic Center of Virginia also publishes a newsletter and a yearly Islamic Calendar.  To receive the Islamic Center of Virginia newsletter, contact us and request that your name be added to the mailing list.

Regular activities of the Islamic Center of Virginia are:

      ۞ Daily prayers,
      ۞ Dawa for Muslims and non-Muslims,
      ۞ Religious Halaqas and classes for enhancing the understanding of Qu'ran, Hadith and Fiqh for adults, children and new Muslims.

MEMBERSHIP

Elections for the Executive Committee and/or Board of Trustees positions are typically held on the last Sunday of April each year.  The five Executive Committee members are elected for a two-year term.  There are nine members on the Board of Trustees.  Each year one position on the Board of Trustees is open for elections unless as in calendar year 2008 where a disagreement in the community resulted in the ouster of a number of devoted Sunni Muslims for progressive reformists. 

To vote in the General Assembly meetings, new members must complete the Membership Application form which requires signatures of three current members along with a $100 membership fee a minimum of 60 days prior to the General Assembly meeting.   Current members must renew their membership a minimum of 30 days prior to the General Assembly meeting.
